OUR
PRIORITIES
As representatives of the Mississippi People's Movement, we stand united in our commitment to advancing the fundamental interests and well-being of our communities. Recognizing the diverse needs and aspirations of our region, we have identified the following priorities that resonate across our neighborhoods, towns, and cities:
Land Stewardship and Sovereignty: We affirm the importance of protecting and preserving our land, recognizing it as the foundation of our livelihoods, cultures, and identities. We advocate for policies that uphold land rights, promote sustainable agriculture, and honor the sovereignty of Indigenous peoples.
Economic Justice and Labor Rights: We strive for an economy that works for all, where every individual has access to dignified work, fair wages, and equal opportunities for prosperity. We advocate for policies that empower workers and address systemic inequalities in wealth and income.
Environmental Sustainability and Renewable Energy: We are committed to safeguarding our environment for current and future generations, recognizing the urgent need to address climate change and protect natural resources. We advocate for policies that promote renewable energy, mitigate pollution, and ensure environmental justice for marginalized communities.
Democratic Governance, Language Justice, and Public Health: We believe in a democracy that is transparent, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the people. Central to this belief is language justice, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected, regardless of linguistic background. We advocate for policies that strengthen democratic institutions, protect civil liberties, and prioritize public health through equitable access to healthcare, education, and social services.
In pursuit of these priorities, we pledge to collaborate with individuals, organizations, and policymakers who share our vision for a more just, equitable, and sustainable Mississippi. Together, we will work tirelessly to build a future where every person can thrive, regardless of race, class, gender, or background and the human rights of all are respected.
